Thursday – eeek… I’m two days late, but I have an excuse; I was out of town at a conference and didn’t have time to think let alone write a blog. So here I am with a pile of work to catch up on and again, little time to do much but hope to make some progress. So what better topic to happily discuss than “public sleeing day”?
I could use a nap… I could easily fall asleep just about anywhere today – I pity the poor chap that has to watch me drool though. Soggy pillows are a sign of a rested mind…

Today is National Nose-Blowing Day, Spunky Old Broads Day, National Chocolate Mint Day and Straw Wrapper Appreciation Day. Although Andes candies come to mind, and I have plenty to share on the topic of nose blowing… and I could sit for hours and tell stories about spunky old broads in the family…
Unfortunately I don’t have a single doodle handy for any of the above. Not to mention, the thought of coming up with an appropriate doodle makes me laugh to the point I can’t hold a pencil stead… are you familiar with the one man band with the cymbols between his knees and the kazoo/harmonica tethered to his face? Combine that with a wad of Grease style rollerskating gum smacker and a 2 year old post chocolate invasion… and you might come close to my mind’s eye view of today’s potential doodle. Scarey, I know.
So, instead, I’d like redirect your attention to point out that February is also National Weddings Month.
Never would it have occurred to me that Februrary has anything to do with weddings, except the overload of proposals and resulting engagements. I always figured, since there are more weddings in the summer, it would be logical to celebrate in the matrimonial spirit some time in June. Maybe…. this is the Bridal Association’s way of drumming up more business in the midst of a cold quiet winter.

I hope the lil’ love fairy passes by your way today!
This piece was inspired by my facination for cutie-pie frilly magical characters. I’ve always truly enjoyed the whimsical cuteness of children’s decor. This illustration is my take on what the love fairy would look like… just big enough to carry in your pocket. She carries with her little bits of magic as she dances about – spreading love where ever she goes. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a lil’ love fairy in your day?

Today is Pick A New Love Song Day – I’d really like to say I’m delighted to pick a new love song, but I think I’ll have to revert back to my favorite… for good reason of course.
When my husband and I were dating, we watched the movie Serendipity — enjoying it so much we claimed it as our favorite sappy love story. From that movie we picked our wedding song, the song we attempted to dance together (I think I only stepped on his toes once).
So for the day, my love song is When You Know by Shawn Colvin –

This week’s Illustration Friday topic is “blanket”. The first thing that came to mind were the super hero capes and livingroom forts. I loved those snowy days when school was canceled – sitting around pretending the house was an obstacle course and our adventure began with hot cocoa.
If it weren’t for my blankie, I’d have to travel the unknown alone and cold. So my contribution to the topic is the bedtime penguin… complete with mini penguin blankie (and teddy of course).
I still have that old blanket, packaged very carefully in a little ziploc baggie.. shredded with love.

Today is Shrove Tuesday, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and the day after Shrove Monday. Shrove Tuesday is the day of great feasting and celebrating… eat delightful scrumptious-ness all day, day.
Tis’ true, today is Sprengidagur (Bursting) Day, Mardi Gras, Pancake Day , Carnival, and Fasching. It depends on where you are which is your day name of choice, but they’re all celebrating the same concept – party tonight for tomorrow Lent begins!
Just think, if we combined all the celebration traditions of the day, there would be piles of happiness filled with the yummy treats we’d eat all day… oh joy!
