Tuesday’s topic this week is The Dentist… why? Because that is where I will be when most are just beginning their day. I decided instead of cringing or whining or generally grumping about, I’d try to find some happiness in the whole concept. I like dentists. They’re lovely folk to chat with. I just prefer not to visit a dentist. The older I get and the more children I have, the crummier my teeth become. This results in both non-enjoyable and pricey visits to the dentist. I’m sure he loves me… I’m increasing his retirement fund.
But dispite my lack of excitement, I do have one grin to share…

While I sit here, the first snow of the season begins to think it’s own melting. Yet Illustration Friday’s topic for the week is “grow”. Regardless of any kind of appropriate seasonal connection, the first thing that comes to mind is sweet smellin’ – bee attractin’ – beautiful bloomin’ buds. So, my illustration for the week is the Spring Garden Penguin.

Today is Boss Day, the day every employee can stop and say “hey thanks for being a great boss”… assuming the boss is great, and assuming we need a single day for the opportunity…
But what about those of us that are our own boss, the self employed? Do I pat myself on the back and say, “hey thanks me, I’m so glad I’m great”? Ha!
No, I’d prefer to stop and say “WOW, look where I am” and then thank all the people who supported my ideas or written letters telling me they love the designs. Thank YOU for the encouragement. It’s a fabulous feeling to have an idea, be able to go ahead and pursue the concept and the result is customers who like the idea as well. That’s the drive behind the shop. Seems every design I create, whether I intend it or not, has at least a touch of girly added to it. I am not sure what the inspiration is, other than I adore cute, and I think cute and giggly is always associated with girly — that’s unforunate. The boys are missing out on this one.
Recently, rather than try to fight it, I decided maybe I should take all that subtle frilly pink and just run with it… go all out and flaunt it… on purpose.

October, as many already know, is Breast Cancer Awareness month. So Tuesdays topic this week is promoting pink!
Thousands of individuals, companies and organizations around the country… and even the world, join together every October to help promote awareness of this wide spanning disease. You’ll find hundreds of t-shirts, pink ribbon products, and fund raising events, each supporting breast cancer awareness at some level.
I personally think this push should be a year round promotion, so this year, I have coordinated a group of designers to joined together a little differently. We’re each dedicating at least one design as a specialty art card – “Cards for a Cure”. Each designer has created art around the theme “pink” and is offering their work as individual greeting cards, large card sets and note card sets.
JGoode Designs will be to BCA charities for every card sold not just from my own designs, but also from designs donated by other participating designers. Throughout the month of October, every time someone buys a card through the provided product listing here at JGD or ShopBCA, I’ll donate .50 per card (card pack donations will be per card as well).
