Over the past few months or so I have found myself in awe of the lack of verbal communication that surrounds us.

Seems to me, we all walk around with a gazillion thoughts in our heads and only audibly speak 1/10 of them. That leaves the rest of the observing world to fend for themselves as to what we are thinking… what, 90% of the time. Isn’t that a little too much “room for interpretation”?

I’ve noticed we do this silent talk in business, relationships, with our kids and with our peers… public or private. We assume everyone knows the full thought in our head while we actually verbalize 1 out of every 5 words. How does that work?

I realize nonverbal communication is the secret language, but come on… No wonder there are silly arguments over mis-used phrases, battles over opinions and anger spewing over spilt milk.

What would happen to a business’s if the company listened and the customer spoke? Or a business actually spoke on topics the customers wanted to hear, without the sales speal?
(This is different than complaining and sales pitching of course.)

Imagine, if we’d stop and speak for 45 seconds, we might get out 3 more sentences that then result in saving ourselves 3 hours of arguing.

Oh and the second half of the concept is listen. If someone is going to take the time to actually open their mouth… regardless of how complete their thoughts are; maybe if we stop and truly listen, we’d hear something.

Imagine that!

If we each take 5 minutes every day, whether at work or at play to say something that’s on our minds… maybe we’ll go to bed at night with a new perspective, big or small.

Hip Hip HooRay – is it YOUR International You Day?

Well maybe today isn’t international you day in your world, but it is for someone somewhere on the globe. So happy day to every someone who is having a birthday today.

I strongly believe we are ment to take the day off and loaf around, if we so choose. Birthdays are the one day each year we can claim a holiday and yet it doesn’t necessarily apply to anyone else we know. We can eat cake for breakfast or wear a big fluffy hat. Wee can do a happy dance and actually have a valid reason to be dorky…

So celebrate says I!
